Maya Abstract Tutorial – 3D Modelling

3dabstract18 : Maya Abstract Tutorial 3D Modelling

Recently I have been fascinated by 3d abstract art. They look awesome and surreal. I had a notion to renew my blog design (again) and was inspired to do something along the lines of this style. I started researching for tutorials but couldn’t found any good ones for Maya. There were alot for Cinema4d in Deviantart but none for Maya so I decided to make one.

3dabstract42 : Maya Abstract Tutorial 3D Modelling

Here is one example of 3d abstract render that I like..

3dabstract19 : Maya Abstract Tutorial 3D Modelling

In this tutorial, we will be using Autodesk Maya to model the fractal polygon. You have to have some basic knowledge of Maya and Photoshop to begin this tutorial. I will not be going into details about the lighting and rendering part. This is just a modelling tutorial. icon smile : Maya Abstract Tutorial 3D Modelling

Picture 12 500x279 : Maya Abstract Tutorial 3D Modelling

First, start up Miss Maya and go into the 4 view. Draw a CV nurbs curve in each of the Top, Side and Front view. Make sure they are all in the center of the grid. You can be creative and start drawing curse words or obscene figures. It doesn’t really matter. Close the curves. In the perspective view, you should see the 3 curves that you have drawn intersecting each other.

Picture 15 500x248 : Maya Abstract Tutorial 3D Modelling

Select all 3 curves, go to Nurbs > Surfaces> Loft. Mess around with the settings to get the look that you want but keep the section spans at 6 minimum. You should have a good starting model already.

Picture 16 500x340 : Maya Abstract Tutorial 3D Modelling

Now, you can move the 3 curves you created earlier independently to further define the shape of the mass glob you are creating. Once you are satisfied, I would advise you to keep the CV curves in a layer and the nurbs surface in another.

Picture 18 500x381 : Maya Abstract Tutorial 3D Modelling

Head to Animation, Create Deformers and we will drop in a few deformers. You can use any of them in any order you like. In this tutorial, we will be using Bend -> Twist -> Sine. If you are looking for a petal shaped model, Twist is the deformer you are looking for.

Picture 19 500x224 : Maya Abstract Tutorial 3D Modelling

Select the Nurbs surface and click on the Bend deformer. In the right tab, mess around with the values. There are no rules for this, just go crazy.

Picture 20 500x251 : Maya Abstract Tutorial 3D Modelling

With the Nurbs surface still selected, click on the Twist deformer this time. Again, mess around the values until you get the shape that you want. The more angle you add, the more petals its gonna create(depending on your CV curves).

Picture 21 500x236 : Maya Abstract Tutorial 3D Modelling

Then, with the Nurbs surface selected, click on the Sine deformer. Play around with the values once again. You can add in more deformers if you want. When you are done, perhaps you would like to click on your Loft1 input and add more section spans if your model is looking abit jagged.

Create a camera, set the Focal Length to an impossibly low number like 5 or 10. Spin the camera around, move it until you get an angle that is interesting to render.

Pick a few and start adding your shaders, lights and render away!

Picture 22 500x375 : Maya Abstract Tutorial 3D Modelling

For mine, I just drop in a transparent Anisotropic shader with a tight specular. I render out the diffuse layer and saved it as PNG.

abstractocc 500x375 : Maya Abstract Tutorial 3D Modelling

Then, I pushed the model into a Render Layer and quickly render out the occlusion.

abstractref 500x375 : Maya Abstract Tutorial 3D Modelling

After that, I go back into my Master Layer, drop in a Black Anisotropic shader with full reflections and I switched to Mental Ray. I added a HDR for the reflections. This will be my reflection pass.

640 500x375 : Maya Abstract Tutorial 3D Modelling

With the 3 passes, I composited them and added a Inner Glow in Photoshop to give it a more translucent effect. I added some colours, threw in a few brushes..patterns..textures.. some typography and there you have it. A 3d abstract art. icon smile : Maya Abstract Tutorial 3D Modelling

Some of the renders in other 3D galleries have tentacles or swirls around them, you can get them using CV curves extrudes with scaling applied to them.
What I am interested in is how they UV the damn thing and apply textured shaders to them. UV seems to be a nightmare to me at this point. But for a first try, it looks easy and promising enough to try some more complicated stuff. I am pretty sure its just a matter of extruding more surfaces out of the current build of the shape.

Halloween – beMASKED 2

haze0077s 416x500 : Halloween beMASKED 2

2nd post about the masks I bought from Bemasked. This mask is alot more complicated and dramatic than the earlier one.

haze0084s : Halloween beMASKED 2

The thing about all these masks is I can pose however I want and still look good with it. It looks like a bouquet of flowers here.

haze0092s : Halloween beMASKED 2

I think personally, I will wear my mask on top of my head like headgear. Cool huh. icon biggrin : Halloween beMASKED 2

haze0079s 355x500 : Halloween beMASKED 2

And maybe it will be like in the movies, once you wear a mask even your mother will not recognize you. wtf

haze0093s : Halloween beMASKED 2

It looks vintage and romantic. Kinda nice for a wedding photoshoot too eh.

Halloween – beMASKED 1

haze0104s : Halloween beMASKED 1

Halloween is coming and the quick way to look cool is to get a mask. I found some cool ones from bemasked, they are all handmade and are exquisitely beautiful.

haze0162s : Halloween beMASKED 1

Just because you are wearing a mask, you should apply some makeup as well. Your lips are especially important. Keep them neat and nicely glossed. If you are going to wear lashes, remember to get the short ones or your mask might accidentally snag on them when you remove your mask.

haze0158s : Halloween beMASKED 1

Another idea to wear a mask is to tie it at the top of your head just like a headband.

haze0144s : Halloween beMASKED 1

That or let it hang from your shoulder. The mask is a very elaborate piece of accessory that you can wear anywhere and look glamourous!

haze0108s : Halloween beMASKED 1

I have another mask coming up!

Black Stars

haze0031s 328x500 : Black Stars

This is a simple look with dark dark dark dark dark smokey eyes and some bronzer to lift the structure of your face.

warm88 : Black Stars

The tutorial uses my new Coastal Scents product, the Warm 88 Pallete. It has lots and lots of neutral tones, shimmers of all kinds for bronzing and face sculpting. It is the same price as the rest of the CS products, RM 80.

haze0005 : Black Stars

As everybody’s skin tone is different, I cannot do the usual numbered pigment way of tutorial. Instead, I will leave it up to your creativity and um.. intelligence? First use an angled brush and fill in your eyebrows with a dark brown colour. After that pick a milk colour and use that for your brow bone.

haze0011 : Black Stars

Start your eye makeup with a dark brown colour. Dab close to your lashline, clean your brush and blend in a circular motion upwards. Brush abit on your lower lashline.

haze0013 : Black Stars

Build up the intensity of the colours by using a darker colour this time. I use black cuz I am going to a photoshoot later. Dab close to your lashline and blend blend blend.

haze0014 : Black Stars

Continue building colours if you want. After you are done, line your eyes with a black liquid eyeliner.

haze0018 : Black Stars

Use a camera and take a photo of your eyes, it should be a gradual smokey effect. However, if its not smooth use the brush and blend again. Repeat until it looks like the above.

haze0019 : Black Stars

Use a sweet pink blusher for your cheeks. After that if you have any shimmer, apply the light ones on the top of your cheek towards your brow bone. Lightly brush over your nose bridge. Use a darker bronzer shimmer over your chin and T-zone.

haze0022 : Black Stars

For a gyaru look, use lipliner and line your lips slightly bigger. Fill your lips with lipliner and finish with gloss.

haze0020 : Black Stars

I bought some new extensions and wanted to try them out..So I straightened my hair and clipped in 6 extensions.

haze0069s : Black Stars

This is the result icon biggrin : Black Stars

haze0059 396x500 : Black Stars

You can have a more dramatic look if you build up your eyeshadow even more. You can also use other colours as well. The technique is the same.

haze0067 327x500 : Black Stars

Hope you like it!

Shoeville Opens at BSC

IMG 5278 438x500 : Shoeville Opens at BSC

Last week, I went to Shoeville’s shop opening at Bangsar Shopping Center. Coincidentally, that day was also KY‘s birthday. I went there holding a rose awkwardly, trying to decide whether I should hide or stand at the entrance. Lol.

IMG 5282 500x238 : Shoeville Opens at BSC

The event is hosted by Pauline and Celine. They prepped some Subway sandwiches and wine for us. Pauline is detailed enough to even include vegetarian sandwiches.

IMG 5281 475x500 : Shoeville Opens at BSC

The shoes that they have are all imported. Some are from Brazil and all of them are made from cow’s leather. They also said that they will be bringing in fish skin? That will be quite interesting! The brands that they have are SatryaniVia UnoRaphaella Booz and Biondini. In the montage above are some Via Uno shoes. They are widely copied and resold in Bangkok’s Platinum Mall for around RM75. This however, are the real Via Uno. The leather is soft and the cutting is very comfortable.

IMG 5288 500x375 : Shoeville Opens at BSC

Eiling and me. All of us feasted on the lollipops, M & M’s and Subway sandwiches. The wine that they serve taste really good. I think it is dessert wine. Yumz..

IMG 5291 500x375 : Shoeville Opens at BSC

Adele, me and Tziaaa munching on Subway sandwiches.

IMG 5293 271x500 : Shoeville Opens at BSC

I have finally gained weight! 1 month into the relationship, I gained over 7 kg. Now have to liquify photos already. T_T

IMG 5296 500x328 : Shoeville Opens at BSC

They had this contest where we need to pick our favourite pair of heels and give a short pep talk on why its our fave. 3 lucky winners got RM400 voucher to spend. It is equivalent to the price of a pair of heels there. Its really high class heels, I wished I had won but I couldn’t compete with Eiling (we chose the same shoe). She can really talk. 0_0 All I know is how to fix rubik’s cube. T_T

IMG 5297 500x375 : Shoeville Opens at BSC

In the end, all the other girls went away with RM80 voucher. Tis was a fun event icon smile : Shoeville Opens at BSC Thank you Jestina for the invite. icon biggrin : Shoeville Opens at BSC
Shoeville is definitely worth a visit if you are into shoes.
