Last week, I was invited to Marie France Bodyline’s blogger event- Woman behind Women. It was an exclusive event for bloggers to have a Q&A session with Amy Quek, Chief Operating Officer of Marie France Bodyline. I went there in hopes of clearing some myths that are circling around slimming centers.
For those who are not familiar with Marie France Bodyline, they are the market leader when it comes to body slimming and treatments in beauty enhancement. The branding has always been strong, with famous celebrity ambassadors and a worldwide franchise. Miss Amy is very gracious and charismatic, she represented the brand well by giving well thought answers to all the questions asked.
Emcee : What are your thoughts on aging?
Amy : As we age, our metabolism rate will reduce. Marie France gets to the base of this problem, which happens from having a sedentary lifestyle, bad diet and not exercising. Our technology help to increase your metabolic rate, wake up your body and promote detoxing in your body with our machines which are perfectly safe.
Emcee : Where did Marie France source their solutions for slimming technology from?
Amy : Back in the 80s, society were getting more affluent and we realized that the people need the right advice when it comes to their lifestyle. Right advice in terms of nutrition planning, exercise and keeping a youthful look. Since then we have over 20 centers in Malaysia. Over 25 years, we have invested alot of resources in the latest technology and counseling as well. We have a philosophy of 3 ideals – Innovative - we are constantly seeking new technologies. Cheerleaders - we have consultants and therapists to cheer our customers and guide them, encourage them to come for their treatment. Client’s compliance - the clients have to know why they are here for, we share their expectations and we encourage them to be realistic with their goals.
Emcee : What are the changes that are occurring when it comes to slimming trends?
Amy : Customers are more demanding, they want faster results. Hence our search for new technology. However, the fundamental core is still the same, all women want to look beautiful and feel more confident.
Emcee : Recently, Marie France has been involved with a movement to help single mothers, could you tell us a little bit about that?
Amy : We believe in sharing our prosperity and contributing back to society. We chanced upon the Single Mothers’ Association in Malaysia and we want to give hope to the single mothers and their life. We embarked on a journey with to to help them back on their feet, to get their appointments back in career. They lack the confidence and confidence is a huge part to life. We want to help restore that.
Emcee : There are many people who are afraid of the high price when it comes to slimming packages. Also, the pricing for the same package may be different across different branches. Can you help shed the light on this issue?
Amy : Back in September last year, we started a Price Transparency program. For people who are concerned about being short changed they can just come in to any branch and find out about the price. The price is the same across every branch. As a market leader, we are proud to say that we are the first to do it. We have been very satisfied with the results so far, customers know that what they pay is what they are getting. The pressure on price is off and now customers only have to worry about coming for the treatments and looking forward to looking good very soon.
Emcee : Thank you for clarifying that. There are also women that are worried about the package that they signed up for are going to get more add ons, hence slimming their wallet even more over time.
Amy : We do an analysis for customers who walked in. We go though your goals and expectations. All packages are transparent, systematic and catered towards the weight lost that you are aiming for. Consultations and analysis are free, you can try the services before you commit to anything. There are no fear at all, no worries.
Amy on Marie France Bodyline’s Philosophy
The first philosophy – Being Innovative We are constantly searching for the latest technology. Therefore the consultants plays a very important role in managing the client’s expectations. We have a nutritionist that gives advice to our clients and we even teach our customers what to look for in nutrition labels when they are shopping for food.
I asked some questions that have been plaguing me for a long time about slimming centers. I love to go prepared during an interview.
Haze : It is often believed that diet and exercise are the key to a slim and youthful figure. And there has been speculations that slimming centers charge a hefty price for their treatments, but still place an important priority on diet and exercise. In fact, most of our perceptions is that the success of the treatments often depend on the individuals’ diet and exercise. How effective are the treatments if they require diet and exercise in order to be successful?
Amy : Diet and exercise plays an important role in achieving your goals. I would say that it is a combination of all three that guarantees the success of the client’s objective. They need to improve their diet, exercise and show up for treatments if they want to achieve their goals. And this is why Client’s Compliance is very important.
Haze : The idea of a beautiful woman is a subjective one. For some, being fit with lean muscles is the idea of a beautiful woman. As we all know, muscle weights more than fat and if the quantitative measure of slimming success is weight, would your customers be advised from doing weight training?
Amy : I personally don’t believe that being pencil thin is beautiful. We want to promote a healthier lifestyle and we want women to be healthy. Our goals are a healthier you.
Haze : In the future, would you encourage your children to come for a slimming package in Marie France?
Amy : Usually, women who come to Marie France have confidence issues. If my children have confidence issues in the future, why not? It is not a weight loss program but they will be going for a spots reduction program. There is nothing harmful about that and I would definitely encourage them to go for it in the future if they have confidence issue.
Reiko : There are some slimming centers that keep prolonging the spots reduction program. They add on and on and it became never ending. The customer have to continue going for treatment and paying for it. Is Marie France packages like that as well?
Amy : When you come in for a consultation, we give you the expectations of your goal and how realistic it is. Consumers have to know what they want and discuss with the consultants. The consultants will then advice you, but in the end you are the one making the decision so you have to know what you want.
Reiko : There are also rumors going on that after someone finishes a slimming program, they will gain back double the weight after that.
Amy : That doesn’t happen in Marie France, the nutritionist help you to maintain your weight in the future. The results are there, but with the nutritionist’s advice you need to have the compliance to follow through. We don’t enforce a yo-yo diet or crash diet as the results never last for long.
Then I got curious and asked another question.
Haze : In Marie France, do customer return after they complete a treatment? What are the statistics like in terms of the number of women who manage to upkeep their body after completing a treatment? Let’s say out of 10 women who have completed the treatment, how many of them are still having the same body after 3 years?
Amy : Customers do return after they complete a treatment, but never for the same kind of package. They may have completed a spot reduction for their tummy, the second time they are back they are looking for spot reduction in other body parts instead. It’s a new goal. I do not have the statistics at hand but majority of our customers are able to have the same body after completing the treatment.
I am still waiting for the statistics.. Haha..
Amy’s advice to women :
For weddings :
Don’t do things last minute. Work backwards one year, if you have the intention to lose weight before your wedding make sure you have one year dedicated to do that.
For everyone :
Don’t start when problems appear. Prevention is always better. Other than slimming programs, we also have a nutritionist on hand to guide you and we have Maintenance Programs to assist you.
For young ladies :
Apart from promoting metabolic rate, we have a Body Shaping Program as well. We can target specific areas they they want to get rid off. Our machines can analyse your BMI and body fat percentage. A perfectly slim lady may not be slim as a result of their sedentary lifestyle. We have a cellulite check analysis for that purpose and can target those areas. We have different kind of treatments for various audiences.

I have to admit that I am not a big fan of skin care, so I wasn’t expecting a lot from this session of beauty review held at Parkson KLCC. However, it turned out to be the MOST interesting review I have been to. I came to the event and there was a buzz word going around , cosmeceutical cosmeceutical cosmeceutical.
What is cosmeceutical skincare?
Hah. It’s been a long time since I can actually blog about something technical for a while. Hehe. Ok, as all of y’all know.. COSMETIC SKINCARE are those that is sold to you at pharmacies by leading cosmetic brands like Chanel, SKII, Loreal, Olay etc etc. They usually come in the form of liquid or cream for you to apply on to your skin and they work mostly on the surface of the skin.
Then we have HOLISTIC SKINCARE which deals with aromatherapy skincare products and there are also other types of skincare where you eat certain food etc.
Finally we have COSMECEUTICAL SKINCARE where it is a combination of both cosmetic and pharmaceutical research. Imagine a valid doctor prescribed medicinal cream + cosmetic cream merged all in one. The benefits of this approach is the speed where you can see results really fast, usually within weeks or a month’s time. And it penetrates deeper into your skin to actively work on your cells compared to cosmetic skincare, where it is only at surface level. That’s the difference between cosmetic skincare and cosmeceutical skincare.
However, before we go further.. I have to also add that cosmeceutical products does not mean they were tested and approved like they should be if they are actual drugs or medicines(e.g. FDA does not recognize the cosmeceutical term as a valid category). It is by far, just a marketing term and the products is developed just like any other cosmetic skincare product.
Anyway, at this event, the selected bloggers get to take 2 products home to test for 14 days. And we show our before and after in this post. The best blogger with the most interesting blog post wins more products. So at the end of this post, you get to see for yourself if the products work or not.
All these products are mainly anti-aging products. Well, aging is something you cannot testify on.. if I use a cream and at 40 I look like 30 there is no way to prove that if I do not use the cream I will look older or younger. There isn’t anyway to compare. Just like the routes you choose to take in traffic jams. No way to compare. So how all these products work is they reverse time. You do not stop time but your skin gets younger. Okok let’s start already. So long gas.

There were 4 brands that we can explore on that day. StriVectin is one of them. One of the key selling points of StriVectin is their patented form of vitamin B3 called NIA-114. This trademark accelerator basically does the best job when it comes to brightening your skin. So essentially, if you have any age spots.. dark spots.. sun spots.. even scars and discoloration, this is the line of products for you.

Scam or not? If you ask me if the photos are photoshopped, I probably couldn’t answer you. But if you take a look at the 2nd set of photos, you can tell that after 12 weeks there are a lot more hair and I think if I am the photographer I would probably remove the hair but leaving the hair there is probably proof that it wasn’t tampered with. And the last set of photos, wrinkles could have been photoshopped away but you cannot photoshop a saggy eyelid into a more defined, youthful looking eyelid. Therefore, I think that the photos are quite valid.
Also, scam product companies usually have good reviews of their products planted in a lot of websites that only have one article for content or with weird URLs like babygangle232.tripod.com/reviews on free hosted domains. And when you search for scam reports of their companies, the search results is littered with fake people claiming that there product is legit. StriVectin however, is not a scam. Valid reviews.. real users. and good reviews.
Bremenn Research Labs

The second brand we saw that day was Bremenn Research Labs. I like the marketing of this brand. Very in-the-face copywriting and photographs. They only have 2 products there, the Upper Eyelid Lifter and the Serious Dark Circles. I wanted the Serious Dark Circles one, cuz I have genetic triple layered eye bags that I have to painfully conceal and photoshop each fucking time. If you head to their website you can see that their products have very appealing names. Most of their products are priced at RM 235 each.
However, I was given the Upper Eyelid Lifter.. so you get to see the results at the end of this post!
Their products also come with a 30 day guarantee in their official website, so I am guessing that results time comes in 30 days or less.
Scam or not?Definitely not. Valid reviews in YouTube, legitimate websites and blogs with ratings in Amazon and such.

Started by Dr. Nicholas Perricone, dermatologist and anti-aging expert .. award winning, author.. what else. Maybe he is a superstar too. Anyway, he has a hypothesis that inflammation-aging connection is the cause of aging and disease. Summary – aging is a disease.
What causes inflammation? Toxins like smoking, drugs, weak immune system, hormonal changes, diet, stress and the rest of our unhealthy lifestyle. So to stay young, we control inflammation using a 3 tiered program – Anti inflammatory diet + nutritional supplements + clinical skincare.
If you ask me, that’s the way to earn money man, sell people everything from diet to pills to cream. Awesome, thank god he is a philanthropist. Now the guilt is gone.

Aha. This is my favorite part. We have come to my favorite brand of that day. When you walk into this counter, you see bottles, creams and liquids.. you never expect to see the kind of products at the Talika counter. This cosmeceutical brand comes from Paris, and is the pioneer of eyelash growth treatment. Which means, if you bought any product that promises you longer lashes, it is probably copied form Talika’s Lipocils. Btw.. the eyelash care extender has been around for 60 years already. And that is also the product I ended up with.
Anyway, you can expect their range to include complete care for your eyes. From lashes, brows to contour. They also generously share their clinical studies in their website where you can also purchase their products. Talk about advanced!
Coolest skincare products I have ever seen
You see, other skincare brands are all bottles and what not.. I walked to Talika and I see socks and gloves. 0_0 Gadgets and plastic pieces. Drugs are expensive, which is why there is a profit in the research and market. Non-pharmeceutical products are deemed herbal, traditional and scam by all the major companies out there. Here we have an established brand since 1948 with really COOL gadgets and non-pharmaceutical products. This really made my day.

This is why I am so entranced with Talika. They have GADGETS. OMG . [insert hello kitty squeal]
This gadget was floating. FLOATING in the counter. and then you turn on the light and you use one side to reduce dark spots, and reduce wrinkles the other side. It cost over RM 1000 but you can use it FOREVER. This gadget is calledLight Duo.
Luckily the eyelash extender Lipocils costs RM 185 only. They have very good reviews online AND guess what?? I TOLD THE SALES GIRL they would work on eyebrows. She didn’t believe me. There is a youtube video proving that they work on eyebrows too!! Hah. So after I found out about this, I started using the product on my eyebrows too.

Anyway, if you walk into Parkson KLCC, you get a skin analysis for free. Where they take your photo with this cool device that can also analyze all sorts of things from wrinkles to hydrations and spots.

Here in this picture, you can see my skin analysis.. somehow my pores are very big like caves. I have no idea why. I can’t see any though. And my face is dehydrated.

If you look at my eyelids.. you can see that I have a very bad droopy eyelid on the left. Damn you aging clock. Terrible. But after 14 days, the wrinkles are less and the it is not as saggy anymore. It looks much healthier and younger.
If you intend to purchase the product, remember to shake it well before you use it. The concoction is made of a clear liquid and some yellowy paste which does not seem to mix well together.

This is the result after 14 days of using it. It is very difficult to take photographs of your lashes, especially when they are not thick enough. My before photo is not a very good one. We couldn’t get a clear photo of the lashes due to how thin it was. But those who used to read my beauty tutorials will know how my lashes look like la.. it is short and my lower lashes is non existent.

This is slightly better.. If you see my lashes, the after shot lashes are thicker in the ends. The changes is more prominent in real life, my lashes are longer, thicker and curvier. It is amazing really. I was shocked when I saw the changes cuz I wasn’t expecting anything. Then one day, Whoah. Stunned.

From the front, you can see that my lashes has a lot more presence now, especially my lower ones. It is thicker so it seemed like it is darker. lol Am I making any sense? When I apply mascara, I can actually skip false lashes already. Really impressed with this product.
But anyway, I am really pleased with this product and is using them on my brows. Will post photos when the testing duration is up then.

I am also looking for cheap real feather extensions. Bringing them back from US is too expensive. Does any of you know where I can find? Dressed for the night
It has been some time since I last posted up any beauty tutorial. Mostly because I do not have a good camera or a photographer nowadays but recently, KY had purchased a really good lens for his Olympus E-PL3. I find it restricting if I only use a certain pigment or pallete from a brand each time for the tutorial. The reason being that everybody have different sets of makeup and it does not mean that you need to purchase a new makeup set every time you want a new look. Pigments come in different colors and to have a good start, you need to have as many colors as you can in either matte or shimmery finish. For dry skin and skin with acne problems, stay with matte colors as shimmery colors will aggravate your skin problems. So for my tutorials henceforth, I will only state the color of the pigment and you can use the closest color you have in your personal set.
Also, for new readers.. I usually skip right to the eye makeup. Therefore, prior to following any of my tutorials you would want to do the following:
Apply moisturizer, lotion, base or any preparatory skin care serum. This will smooth your skin and defend it from all the plastic that will get on to your skin soon.
Using a sponge, apply foundation all over your face thinly. It makes a lot of difference if you use a sponge compared to a brush or fingers. Sponge application is smoother where else brush application takes skill and fingers are for emergencies. For areas where you feel that you need more coverage to cover spots, you can apply a second layer. However, you do need to avoid your laugh lines and eye bag areas as this will aggravate your wrinkles and make your face looks dry.
Using a concealer brush, dab concealer on spots and eye bags to make them disappear. It is easier to use cake concealer compared to liquid ones as they can cover your spots easier and quicker. For the eye bags area, it is a balance between looking good close up or far away. If you are making up for a photoshoot, by all means use more concealer as photoshop will be there to save the day but if you are going out for an afternoon brunch, make sure your application is thick enough to conceal but thin enough not to cake up.
Using a face brush, brush on face powder on your face until your face appear matt and smooth. Do not use the sponge provided, the application will be too thick and unnatural.
Esmeria Eye Gel to reduce puffiness
This time, I use Esmeria’s Eye Gel on my eye bags. I will be wearing a lot of eye makeup and lashes later so I have to protect my eyes first. This new product helps to reduce deep wrinkles, firm the skin around the eyes, protect against dryness, protect DNA level and enhance healing.
Just a little will do
A little dab goes a long way, I let it set in for a few seconds.
Cool pink for the cheeks
Once the base and powdering is all done, I apply the blusher first and follow by contouring my face.
Cool pink for the brow bone
After that I begin by filling in my brows to a light brown color and apply pale pinkish purple color to the brow bone.
Rough in the white shade for the inner corner
Then I roughly apply some white pigment in the outer corner of my eye. I am not too worry about the shape as I will be filling this part again with white eyeliner later on.
Dark pale blue for the base
I apply the dark pale blue for the lids, followed by shocking cerulean blue near the inner corners. The key to good makeup is blending. No matter what color you use, you must always blend the edges to be as soft as possible.
Dark purple for the shadows
After that I use a dark dark purple for the outer corners of the eye.
Dollywink lashes for top and bottom
For the finishing touch, I apply black eyeliner on my lash lines and white eyeliner in the outer corner of the eye. I stick heavy lashes to my eyes. If you are looking for a more dramatic makeup, make sure that the lashes you use have a soft bone or else you will be in pain halfway through your event.
Pale pink lip gloss to finish
I wanted the look to be a little more dramatic so I applied some dark brown pigment to the sides of my nose near my eyes. Then I finish off with nude lipliner and a pale pink lip gloss.
Simple hairdo
Hairdo is a simple affair of putting some clips and then I am off to the awards!
